Frequently asked questions
Questions About Online Therapy in California
Practical answers about how therapy here works, what it costs, and how to begin. If your question is not here, ask it in the consultation.
Yes. Rise & Rooted Therapy is a fully telehealth practice. I work with adults and couples located anywhere in California, including Solano County, the Bay Area, Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Diego, and rural parts of the state. You need to be physically located in California at the time of session.
Sessions take place over a secure, private video platform. A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist is trained to see problems in relational context, which means looking at your relationships and family history alongside your individual experience. In practice, sessions run about 50 minutes and involve conversation, noticing patterns, and building skills where skills help.
There is no severity threshold you have to meet first. Most people reach out because something has been quietly wearing on them for a while: worry that will not settle, a pattern that keeps repeating, a relationship that feels harder than it should. If you have been wondering whether therapy might help, that is usually reason enough to have a conversation about it.
Yes, anxiety is one of my main areas of focus, including generalized worry, overthinking, physical tension, and anxiety in relationships. See anxiety therapy.
Yes. I provide couples therapy for partners located in California, whether married, engaged, long-term, or living apart. See couples therapy.
Yes, both in couples work and in individual therapy. Many people come individually to understand their own part in a recurring relational pattern, which is productive work even when a partner is not involved.
Yes. Career change, relocation, new parenthood, changes in family structure, and shifts in identity are common reasons people reach out. See therapy for life transitions.
We start with what brought you here and what has been hardest recently. I will ask about your history, your relationships, and what you have already noticed about your own patterns. You do not need to arrive with this organized; putting words to what has only been felt is much of the early work.
It depends on what you are working on. A specific, focused concern may settle in a few months. Longstanding patterns generally take longer. We review how it is going together rather than leaving it open-ended.
Sessions are $175. Full details, including payment and out-of-network reimbursement, are on the fees & insurance page.
Please see the fees & insurance page for current details on insurance and out-of-network benefits, including superbills for reimbursement.
Use the contact page to request a free consultation of about twenty minutes. You can share as much or as little as you want up front. There is no obligation to book sessions afterward.
For most adults seeking help with anxiety, relationships, emotional regulation, and life transitions, telehealth is a well-established way to receive therapy. The therapeutic relationship still forms and the work still happens. Some situations are better served in person or by a higher level of care, and I will tell you directly if I think that applies to you.
Yes, with the limited exceptions required by California law and professional ethics, which include serious risk of harm to yourself or someone else, and suspected abuse of a child, elder, or dependent adult. We go over this fully before we begin.
Rise & Rooted Therapy is not a crisis service and messages are not monitored around the clock. If you are in immediate danger or thinking about harming yourself, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, or call 911.
Still deciding? A consultation is a low-pressure way to find out.
Consultations are free, about 20 minutes, and there is no obligation to book after. It is simply a chance to talk through what is going on and see whether working together feels right.
